Kanyana is a non-profit organisation operating as an Incorporated Association. Despite its exclusive use of committed volunteer carers from the community, the cost to Kanyana for rehabilitating sick, injured, orphaned or displaced wildlife is currently greater than $45,000 per annum, plus the costs of any Capital Works undertaken. Each admission costs on an average $35. Wildlife admissions for 2004 exceeded 1500 animals: an even greater number is anticipated for 2004 to meet the needs of wildlife requiring nursing and rehabilitation.
Kanyana can satisfy many telephone queries, even if early referral to a veterinarian is necessary. Other queries relate to feeding, husbandry and onsite treatments where appropriate facilities and medical experience are available. This is a win/win situation for the community and to veterinarians who are only called upon when medical needs are outside the range of intensive care Kanyana can provide.
The service to wildlife is met without any fee, as all financial contributions are at the discretion of our visitors.
Donations into Kanyana's donation box at the time of wildlife admission, online, or by cheque at a later date, are appreciated and make it possible for us to keep financing our worthwhile services to wildlife and the community. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
